How it is calculated

  1. Stamp card. Drinks per month = regulars × drinks per guest. Every n-th is free: drinks ÷ n. Cost = free drinks × ingredient cost. Discount = 100 % ÷ n.
  2. Revenue forgone. Free drinks × net price, if the guest would otherwise have paid. That is the upper limit, not the rule.
  3. Café Pass. Passes = regulars × share of buyers. Money up front = passes × pass price. Net revenue per pass drink = pass price without 19 % ÷ drinks used.
  4. Versus the usual price. Net pass price minus drinks used × net price. Negative means the pass is a discount for the guest.

What this figure is, and what it is not

  • Extra visits are missing. Both models aim to bring guests back more often. How much more differs for every café, so we leave it out.
  • Not a recommendation. The sentence above sums up the arithmetic. Which option fits depends on your guests.
  • Fees are not included. Subtract printing, app subscriptions or payment fees yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the pass discount so much higher?

Because pass guests pay in advance and do not use every drink, the price per drink can be lower. In return you get money up front and predictable visits.

Is a stamp card worth it at all?

It is simple and cheap. But it brings no money up front and also rewards guests who would have come anyway.

Can I offer both?

Yes. Many cafés keep the stamp card for occasional guests and offer regulars a pass on top.

What does “drinks used per pass” mean?

How many of the included drinks a pass guest actually has on average. Start carefully with 70 to 80 % of the included drinks.
